A Song of Autumn by Edith Fassler
I walked out in the field today
And heard the song of autumn play;
I found the golden kernels there
Beneath the husk of ripening air.
I could not estimate the yield,
The moneyed value of the field,
But found sustaining beauty there
And in the heart a thankful prayer.
I love the Fall! What a wonderful time of the year. Across the pasture, I can see into the thicket of trees, normally so shaded from the canopy above. Now, the trunks are visible up into the hillside, and the pasture before it is a lovely golden brown. My little red brick cottage feels cozy this morning, and I'm thankful for all the blessings the Lord has given me, including this little home.
